Response to Lecture 6

Advertising is the most manipulative form of design, we as the consumer are so invested and reliant on the campaigns, adverts and any other means of selling a product, for it to tell us what we most desire. We no longer rely on instinct or real need but concentrate only on what we want, with the ideal that we need the lifestyle and promises brought with the product. This advert from 1946 even draws upon legitimate professionals to convince the sceptical consumer that cigarettes are in fact no harm to your health, showing how far advertising goes to lie to sell the product.
